Hyderabad: In a coordinated inspection drive led by BRS working president KT Rama Rao, senior BRS leaders on Tuesday visited several Basti Dawakhanas across Hyderabad and exposed the poor condition of the clinics including a lack of staff, medicines and diagnostic services.
They accused the Congress government of large-scale neglect and administrative failure in providing basic healthcare services to the poor.
Former Minister and MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy, MLC Dasoju Sravan, and BRS leader Nandikanti Sridhar inspected the Basti Dawakhana at Shaikpet, expressing anger over its deteriorating condition.
Prashanth Reddy said that the Congress regime had turned the once-efficient Basti Dawakhanas established by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to serve the urban poor, into neglected centres without service or accountability.
He pointed out that diagnostic machines remained defunct for months, medicines were in short supply and patients were being forced to turn to expensive private hospitals.
Former Minister and senior MLA G Jagadish Reddy visited the Basti Dawakhana at Vinayakarao Nagar in Borabanda division and interacted with patients and staff regarding the prevailing challenges. He also got a health checkup done by doctors on the occasion.
He said the findings of BRS leaders during the surprise inspection, exposed criminal negligence in public health of the government and vowed to fight the Congress government until accountability is fixed.
At Vengal Rao Nagar, MLA Dr K Sanjay and former MLA Dr Methuku Anand said Basti Dawakhanas, which were once envisioned to provide doorstep care to the poor, were now suffering from staff shortages, irregular services and poor hygiene.
In Yousufguda Basti, BRS MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy and Jubilee Hills BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha said the Revanth Reddy government had failed miserably in healthcare delivery, contrasting it with the robust medical network built under BRS’s tenure.
