BRS leaders Study Tamil Nadu’s BC reservation policy
The study tour by the 40-member delegation is to draw lessons from Tamil Nadu's social reforms and recommend policies to the Telangana government to uplift BCs in Telangana.
Hyderabad: The BRS delegation on Friday met several prominent Backward Classes (BC) leaders, organisations and also government officials of Tamil Nadu as part of their study of the State’s reservation policies. The study tour by the 40-member delegation is to draw lessons from Tamil Nadu’s social reforms and recommend policies to the Telangana government to uplift BCs in Telangana.
Former Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Rammohan Rao, while meeting with BRS leaders in Chennai, lauded Telangana’s progress under Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and appreciated BRS’s efforts in addressing BC concerns. He explained about the long struggle for BC rights that originated in the Madras Presidency and commended Tamil Nadu’s progressive approach, which culminated in the implementation of 69 per cent reservation in education and jobs. He stated that Tamil Nadu’s vibrant social and political movements offer a model for other States where BCs are still fighting for their share of representation.
BRS leaders, including Legislative Council Leader of Opposition S Madhusudanachari, former Ministers V Srinivas Goud and Gangula Kamalakar, and Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, affirmed the BRS’ commitment to securing justice for BCs in Telangana. Under BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership, they vowed to continue pressuring both State and Central governments, in this regard.
The BRS delegation also visited the Dravida Kazhagam (DK) office in Chennai and met with DK president Veeramani, who shared insights on the Dravidian movement and its role in uplifting backward communities. They met Tamil Nadu BC and MBC Welfare Principal Secretary Vijay Raja Kumar and other officials, as well as several BC leaders to learn about various policies being implemented for BCs in Tamil Nadu.
