BRS minority leader seeks white paper on Telangana law and order
BRS Minority Cell General Secretary Abdul Muqeet Chanda has demanded that the Telangana government release a white paper on the state's law-and-order situation, citing an alleged rise in murders and crimes against women.
Hyderabad: BRS Minority Cell General Secretary Abdul Muqeet Chanda on Sunday demanded that the Telangana government release a white paper on the law-and-order situation in the State, particularly the growing number of murders and crimes against women in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas.
Abdul Muqeet Chanda alleged that there has been a rise in murders and other serious crimes since the Congress government came to power and said the increasing incidents were creating fear among the people. He said the government must come out with comprehensive details of murders, crimes against women and other serious offences reported across the State.
Recalling the murder of a woman veterinary doctor near Shadnagar, Muqeet Chanda said that during the BRS government, then Cyberabad Commissioner VC Sajjanar had taken swift and strict action against those involved in the case. He said the BRS government treated law and order as a priority and gave police officers the freedom to act firmly against criminals.
Muqeet Chanda questioned why the same Sajjanar, who is now serving as the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, was unable to check the increasing number of murders and other crimes in Hyderabad. He alleged that the police were now largely confined to issuing statements and holding press conferences after crimes had taken place instead of taking effective preventive measures.
He said incidents of murders in broad daylight and on public roads were creating fear among people and adversely affecting the image of Hyderabad. Muqeet Chanda alleged that people were gradually losing confidence in the government’s ability to maintain law and order.
