Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi minority leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail appealed to voters to reject cash inducements made by the Congress party and support the BRS in the Jubilee Hills by-election scheduled for Tuesday.
Speaking at a meeting here on Sunday, Sohail said instances of mob violence, demolitions carried out by HYDRAA, restrictions on public religious observance, desecration of graveyards and harassment of residents had left long-lasting trauma that cannot be compensated by a small sum being distributed by the Congress party among voters.
He said families who lost homes and persons who had allegedly been pushed to despair deserved more than a one-time cash settlement.
“Is our vote so cheap? Is our integrity worth only Rs 2,500?” he asked, urging people to refuse what he called temporary inducements. He warned that accepting cash would normalise a mindset in which candidates believed they could act without restraint after victory and then buy votes in future contests.
Sohail urged the voters to go to the polling booth on November 11 with clear minds and cast ballots that, in his view, would protect dignity and hold leaders to account. He said, “Before you use your vote, think who you are empowering and what legacy you will leave for future generations”.
