Hyderabad: BRS MLAs staged a protest in the Telangana Legislative Assembly premises over an acute urea shortage. They held placards highlighting farmers’ distress during the ongoing Yasangi (Rabi) season and raised slogans against the State and Central governments for their inability to ensure adequate stocks in advance.
The BRS legislators questioned whether urea, which was unavailable at fertiliser shops, would be accessible through mobile apps, and raised slogans blaming the Congress government for the crisis. Police stopped the MLAs from taking placards inside the House, leading to a brief argument at the Assembly premises.
BRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao said issues were being addressed only when the Opposition raised them. “The government released funds for surrender leaves of police personnel only after I raised the issue in the Assembly. If we speak for farmers on urea, then urea will come,” he remarked.
Earlier, an adjournment motion was moved by the BRS seeking an immediate discussion on the fertiliser shortage. BRS working president and Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao, along with MLAs Gangula Kamalakar and Dr K Sanjay, urged Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to suspend the listed agenda and take up the issue to discuss the plight of farmers.
