Hyderabad: BRS MLAs and MLCs staged a protest at Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial at Gun Park on Thursday, demanding implementation of the BC Sub-Plan. They accused the Congress government of betraying Backward Classes after exploiting them as a vote bank in elections.
Led by BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao, legislators held placards and raised slogans against the government’s alleged failure to honour its commitments. They accused the ruling party of misleading BCs through the Kamareddy BC Declaration and 42 per cent reservation, but failing to deliver it.
Speaking on the occasion, BRS deputy floor leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav alleged that the Congress had promised Rs 20,000 crore annually for BC welfare but failed to deliver. He said in first year, the Congress government allocated Rs 800 crore for BC sub-plan, but did not release funds, while Rs 11,000 crore was allocated in the second year with only Rs 3 crore spent.
Srinvias Yadav credited the previous BRS government under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for strengthening BC welfare through Gurukul and residential educational institutions, apart from ensuring wide political representation. He recalled that the BRS government also promoted traditional caste-based occupations and improved their living standards.
Warning of political consequences, he said BC communities would teach the Congress a lesson in the next elections.
The BRS moved an adjournment motion in the Assembly, seeking a discussion on the implementation of BC sub-plan and BC welfare.
