Hyderabad: Former BRS MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy has refuted allegations linking him and his party to the murder of Rajalingamurthy in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on Wednesday, calling them politically motivated attempts to malign BRS.

He condemned the Congress’s mudslinging against the BRS and attempts to pin the blame on him and senior BRS leaders, including party president K Chandrashekhar Rao and senior leader T Harish Rao.

Rajalingamurthy, who had filed a case alleging the BRS government’s role in the Medigadda barrage collapse, was murdered on Wednesday, triggering a political storm.

With the deceased’s family and Congress leaders pointing fingers at BRS, Venkataramana Reddy dismissed the accusations, stating that his party never indulged in murder politics.

“The Congress is making baseless claims without knowing the facts. The FIR clearly states that this murder stemmed from a local land dispute, and police should conduct an impartial investigation to punish the real culprits,” he demanded. He also noted that those accused in the case, were reportedly in police custody.

The former BRS MLA pointed out the past criminal record of Rajalingamurthy, who was involved in multiple land disputes and had a history as a rowdy sheeter. He said the deceased’s wife, a former BRS councilor, was being pressured to make false allegations against him.

Venkataramana Reddy also demanded the State government to conduct a CB-CID investigation or even seek a CBI probe into the case. “Rajalingamuyrthy filed a case on the Medigadda barrage issue and it will be handled legally,” he affirmed.

He also criticised Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy for his remarks, charging him with using the incident for political mileage. “Venkat Reddy has no credibility as he frequently indulges in frivolous allegations. He had earlier alleged involvement of Nakirekal MLA Vemula Veeresham who is now in the Congress in the murder case of the Nalgonda Municipal chairman,” he reminded.
