Hyderabad: BRS Parliamentary party leader KR Suresh Reddy lashed out at both the Central and State governments for indirectly supporting the proposed Godavari-Banakacherla project by Andhra Pradesh. He accused the Congress-led Telangana government of remaining a mute spectator, while the BJP-led Centre backed Andhra Pradesh’s Banakacherla project, threatening Telangana’s share of Godavari River waters.
Speaking to mediapersons in Delhi on Thursday, Suresh Reddy said under the guidance of the party chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the BRS MPs were raising voice in the Rajya Sabha against the injustice meted out to Telangana.
“We moved an adjournment motion, but there is an attempt to silence us. The State government is failing to respond, while our waters are being diverted,” he said.
He also took aim at the Congress’s staged protest on BC reservations. “This issue must be fought in the Parliament, not through symbolic protests. Why did not Rahul Gandhi or other top Congress leaders join the dharna in Delhi, if the Congress is committed to the cause?” he asked. He also pointed out the lack of commitment in implementing a BC sub-plan.
Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra stated that the Congress was doing politics by invoking K Chandrashekhar Rao’s name. He said the Congress protest on BC reservations in Delhi was nothing more than a political stunt.
“None from the Gandhi family attended. Revanth Reddy is only using BCs for political mileage,” he said.
He questioned the sincerity of the Congress in implementing the BC reservation bills. He pointed out that the bills were pushed without the Governor’s approval, and lacked Ninth Schedule protection.
“There is not a single ST, Yadav, or Munnuru Kapu in the State Cabinet. Is this social justice?” he questioned.
