Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, S Madhusudhana Chari, lashed out at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for his controversial comment that farmers wanted to hang former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao.
He termed the remark “irresponsible and insulting” and said Telangana would not have achieved statehood without Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership.
Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, Chari said it was not Chandrashekhar Rao, but those who betrayed Telangana during the statehood movement, including the Congress, who should be punished.
He said the Congress had a long history of deceiving Telangana, from its initial merger with Andhra Pradesh and the subsequent injustice in various sectors, to its ongoing mishandling of river water disputes.
Chari also challenged Revanth Reddy to ask defected BRS MLAs to resign and seek re-election. “Revanth Reddy talks big, but delivers little. If he has guts, let him prove it in the bypolls,” he said.
Former Minister V Srinivas Goud criticised the Congress government for failing to implement the 42 per cent BC reservation promised in its manifesto. He pointed out that with the High Court setting September 30 as the deadline for conducting panchayat elections, the government must immediately present a roadmap to fulfil its commitment to BC quotas.
MLCs T Ravinder Rao, Surabhi Vani Devi, and Naveen Kumar were also present at the press meet.
