Hyderabad: Workers and leaders of the BRS laid siege to the MRO Office, demanding that the eight acres of Government land in the Cantonment area be protected from encroachers and used for the construction of 6,000 Indiramma houses for the poor.
Leading the dharna, the BRS Membership In-Charge, Dr Manne Krishank, said the land, valued at nearly Rs 800 crore, had been recorded as Government land in official records for several decades. The Congress leaders themselves had earlier proposed the construction of 6,000 Indiramma houses on the very same land. However, he alleged that the local Congress legislator, who was bribed with Rs 5 crore, was now allowing encroachment of the land.
The BRS alleged that the land was being encroached upon for the construction of shopping malls and asserted that it would not allow Government land to fall into the hands of encroachers. Krishank warned that the party would intensify its agitation on the issue. He recalled that when some encroachers tried to enter the land on August 19, 2023, the then Government acted promptly. The MRO lodged a complaint, an FIR was registered at the local police station, and steps were taken to protect the Government property.
Recently, the Congress Government has allowed the same Government land to be encroached upon by land grabbers, the BRS alleged. The party demanded that the Congress Government and its officials pursue all available legal remedies to ensure that the land was restored to Government ownership. The programme was attended by BRS Membership In-Charge Dr Manne Krishank, Niveditha, former Corporation Chairman Gajjala Nagesh, former Cantonment Board members Jakkula Maheshwar Reddy, Anita, Nalini, Kiran, Pandu Yadav, Shyam Kumar, T N Srinivas and other party leaders.
