Narayanpet: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) organised a 25-km padayatra on Saturday to protest the delay in the construction of the Makthal–Narayanpet four-lane highway, even though the project’s foundation stone has been laid twice.
Former MLA Chittem Rammohan Reddy led the march from Makthal to the Narayanpet district headquarters. A large number of BRS workers took part, drawing attention to the lack of progress on the project.
The existing road connecting the two towns, which stretches for nearly 25 km, is in poor condition, with numerous potholes causing difficulties for commuters. Around 180 potholes had reportedly been identified earlier on this stretch.
The government had announced an allocation of about Rs 280 crore for the highway project under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy laid the foundation stone for the four-lane highway in February 2025. On July 13 this year, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Minister Vakiti Srihari laid the foundation stone for the project again.
However, construction has yet to begin, and the road remains in poor condition. The BRS organised the padayatra to press for action on the long-pending project.
