Hyderabad: BRS leaders called on State Election Commission (SEC) officials and urged them to strictly implement the Telangana High Court directions on conducting elections to the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson posts in Ibrahimpatnam and Kyathanpalli municipalities within the three-week deadline.
The BRS delegation comprising former MLC Karne Prabhakar, party general secretary Soma Bharat Kumar, BRSV State president Gellu Srinivas Yadav and other leaders submitted a representation seeking free, fair and transparent elections without political interference. They also asked the SEC to ensure proper law and order and prevent the recurrence of irregularities reported earlier.
Speaking later, Karne Prabhakar accused the Congress government of trying to subvert the mandate in municipalities where BRS had a majority. He alleged that despite BRS winning more seats in Ibrahimpatnam and Kyathanpalli, attempts were made to influence the outcome.
He also referred to incidents in Kyathanpalli and demanded that the SEC act independently and conduct elections as per the High Court schedule in the third week. Stating that BRS respected democratic verdicts, he said the party expected the same commitment from the present government.
