Hyderabad: BRS MLA and former Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy on Sunday demanded a judicial probe into the gun culture and corruption within the Congress government. She questioned the role of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the silence of the police even after a Minister’s daughter alleged that the Chief Minister had provided a gun to threaten a businessman.
She demanded an inquiry by a sitting judge into the allegations against the Chief Minister and other Ministers, urging the Governor’s intervention in the matter.
“If someone close to the Chief Minister is involved in this settlement, then Revanth Reddy definitely has a hand in it. The Chief Minister is accountable to the people and must give an explanation to the allegations levelled against him,” she said. She also demanded that the police record and make public the statement of the cement company director who was allegedly threatened.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan along with BRS women leaders on Sunday, Sabitha questioned why the accused, Sumanth, was found at Minister Konda Surekha’s residence and whether the police acted when she allegedly sheltered him.
She also sought clarity on whether any FIRs were registered against the Chief Minister’s aides for allegedly threatening the cement company director, Minister Konda Surekha for reportedly sheltering and aiding Sumanth to escape, or the police for raiding the residence of the sitting Minister.
“Where did this gun culture come from, and why is it being encouraged?” she asked, demanding accountability from the DGP and the State government. She reminded that this was not an internal issue of the Congress party to discuss with their party in-charge, but a serious issue of concern for the State and it must be dealt with as per law.
Stating that the midnight police visit to a woman Minister’s residence indicates the government’s moral decay, she questioned the BJP’s silence, particularly that of union Minister Bandi Sanjay, on the gun culture.
Former Minister Satyavati Rathod added that law and order had collapsed under the Congress rule, with people being threatened at gun point in areas close to the Chief Minister’s residence.
“If the Minister’s daughter is making allegations, people now understand what this government stands for,” she said.
