Medak: With no major party securing a majority in the Medak municipality, the Congress has made its first move to attract winners from opposition parties.
The BRS emerged as the single largest party by winning 15 of the 32 wards, while the Congress followed closely with 14 wards. The BJP secured two wards and the BSP won one.
However, BSP councillor-elect Bujarampet Aruna joined the Congress in the presence of Mynampally Hanumantha Rao. With this development, the BRS and Congress are now on an equal footing in terms of elected members.
The Congress also has the advantage of an ex-officio vote in the form of MLA Mynampally Rohit. The decision of the two BJP councillors is likely to be crucial in the election of the chairperson and vice-chairpersons.
Meanwhile, the BRS has four MLCs from the erstwhile Medak district, whose votes the party may consider utilising in the contest.
