Hyderabad: Excited and chattering students making their way to the classrooms, canteens abuzz with activity and libraries full of learners — the college campuses are alive again as the students return to the institutions after two years.

With the coronavirus pandemic pushing the Universities and colleges to go online, students were left to study on their laptops and smartphones. For about two academic sessions, the otherwise energetic and crowded college campuses remained deserted. While thousands of students from the 2020-21 academic batches had to make do with virtual experiences of college life. As the Covid cases recede in the city, the students will be able to meet their peers in person and experience the college campus life. Lakhs of excited students, who spent many months stuck in their houses, welcomed the reopening and are attending the classes.

As the final examinations are drawing near, college libraries are also abuzz with students busy making and comparing notes with their peers. Having missed several practical classes, many students were seen at various labs in the colleges to finish and record the experiments. The reopening will help the final year students especially, as they will be able to enjoy their last year of college with their friends. Academically too, these students will be able to clear any doubt with the faculty.

Apart from the assignments and academics, colleges provide an opportunity for the students to experience a wide range of activities – from being part of stage performances, to community involvement, and playing sports to forming a musical band. After being cooped up for so long at home, students will be able to enjoy these aspects of college life, which will help them with an all-round development.

Not just the students, but teachers, who had taken physical classes all their lives, are happy to see their students back in the classroom again. While they were seen following all Covid protocols such as wearing a mask and maintaining social distance, the faculty members enjoyed being back at the college campus.

Interestingly, it is not just the college campuses that have come alive. Several students were seen making a beeline for roadside eateries. From gol gappas, to vada pav, and noodle to momos, business returned to these eateries that had been left cash-strapped owing to the closure of the colleges due to the Covid pandemic.
