Hyderabad: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Telangana including his public meeting at Parade Grounds on Sunday, the Cantonment Congress Party demanded immediate merger of the Secunderabad Cantonment area into GHMC.

The Cantonment Congress leaders, in a statement to the media on Sunday, said people in the Secunderabad Cantonment were eagerly awaiting a clear announcement on the merger.

“Although the State Government, under the directions of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, already expressed its readiness for the merger, the continued lack of clarity from the Centre has created concern among residents and public organisations,” it said.

They said Cantonment MLA Ganesh’s relay hunger strike brought nationwide attention to the merger issue, but it was unfortunate that the BJP leadership still did not respond. The Cantonment leaders urged the Prime Minister to make a clear announcement that would protect the self-respect of the people of the Cantonment.

Senior Cantonment Congress leader Sanki Ravinder, District Congress Committee Vice President Jameel, District Congress Committee General Secretary Samson Raj, and SCB ward V Congress President Peddala Narasimha, urged the Prime Minister.
