By taking us back into time and making us relive what they went through, these movies give us all the motivation we need to take the leap of faith and thrive towards our goals. With Sardar Udham being just a few weeks away from its much-awaited release on October 16, cinephiles are in store for a date with history. Including the soon-to-arrive film on Amazon Prime Video, here are some films which celebrate phenomenal unsung heroes from India’s freedom struggle.
Sardar Udham
Sardar Udham is a story of one of the greatest martyrs in India’s freedom struggle. What made Sardar Udham a one-man army was his passion and zeal that saw everyone in awe of his persona. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the movie stars one of the finest stars in the industry, Vicky Kaushal in the lead role. Coming this Dussehra on October 16 on Amazon Prime Video, audiences are excited to watch one of the most versatile actors in Bollywood essay the role of a true patriot.
Kesari
Directed by Anurag Singh, Kesari is a war film that stars Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra, and Vikram Singh Chauhan in the lead roles. The Amazon Prime Video movie is about the events leading to the battle of Saragarhi that took place in 1897. The movie captures the action and emotions that 21 soldiers of the 36th Sikhs of the British Indian Army went through and balances them extremely well. A film that tells us that it’s more about the fight in the people rather than the people in the fight, Kesari is an inspiring tale of the underdog that leaves an impact.
Tanhaji
This historical action film traces the life of Maratha warrior Tanhaji Malusare. Directed by Om Raut, the movie stars Ajay Devgan, Kajol, and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. Set in the 17th century, this Disney+Hotstar movie is an epic battle between the Marathas and the Mughals. The film shows epic battles not only in the war fields but also when it comes to mind games and strategy. Along with Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan giving some fine performances, watching their courage and motivation to conquer the enemy is moving to say the very least.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi
We’ve all grown up hearing the epic war-cry ‘Khoob ladi mardaani thi voh, Jhansi vali rani thi voh’. Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is a period drama film based on the life of Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi. Directed by K J Vijayendra Prasad, the movie stars Kangana Ranaut as Manikarnika. Packed with an abundance of mind-blowing action scenes this movie will send chills down your spine multiple times. The movie leaves no stones in capturing how a woman does her bit as a wife and a mother but is no less than a man when it comes to sacrificing her life for the country. The picture is a perfect depiction of the poem, penned by Subhadra Kumari Chauhan, and is shot beautifully which makes this Prime Video movie all the more worth watching.
