Kothagudem: The newly introduced Central farm laws were harmful to the country and farmers, said noted film actor, director and producer R Narayana Murthy.
Speaking at a meeting held at the CPM office in Bhadrachalam in the district on Wednesday, he said that during the Covid crisis, all the people across the country wore masks and confined themselves to houses using sanitisers, but only farmers worked hard to feed people of the country. But, sadly, the fate of the farmers is now hanging in balance because of the farm laws introduced by the BJP-led NDA government and the Centre’s move is totally unfair and it failed to recognise farmer’s importance, Murthy said.
The actor said the current generation should take up struggles and movements against those who work against the peasantry in the county. Once the share of the agricultural sector in India used to 75 per cent and it gradually came down to 41 per cent, he noted.
The farm laws would make the country captive in the hands of coporate businessmen like Ambani and Adani, he alleged, saying, PM Narendra Modi, who promised to implement the recommendations made by the MS Swaminathan’s Commission before the election failed to keep his promise, he said.
He said he wanted Modi to immediately repeal the anti-farmer laws and electricity laws which were a major threat to India. People from all walks of life across the country should stand up in support of farmers as the Central laws severely impact 130 crore people of the country.
Murthy explained about his recent movie ‘Rythanna’ and said in his 30 years of career, he never campaigned for his movies. But the ‘Rythanna’ movie was made to highlight the troubles being faced by farmers, said the director of the movie.
CPM leaders MB Narsa Reddy, M Renuka, Gaddam Swamy, Bhemavarpu Venkat Reddy, Bandaru Sarath Babu and others were present at the programme.
