Warangal: TRS leader and party State Social Media Convenor Y Satish Reddy has appealed to Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy to impress upon the Union government and ensure central grants for the Medaram jatara besides according national festival status for this Asia’s biggest tribal congregation.
In a letter addressed to the Union Minister on Saturday, Satish Reddy said that the State government had already released Rs 110 crore for the jatara, and added that the Centre should also help the State to provide more facilities for the benefit of the devotees at Medaram by granting funds.
“The Medaram biennial Sammakka-Sarakka Jatara at Medaram is going to happen between February 16 to 19 next year. Hence, I request you to consider the above requests with showing no discrimination. As a union minister representing our state, I request you to support the above requests,” Satish Reddy said, adding that the jatra is attended by the Adivasi people of the neighbouring states including Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra besides from Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and the Jharkhand States.
Satish Reddy has alleged that the previous governments at the Centre had neglected the jatara without considering the national festival status for it despite several appeals from the State.
“In 2002, then combined Andhra Pradesh government has recognised Samakka – Sarakka tribal jatara as the state festival and since then devotees are exponentially increasing. A bridge was constructed across the Jampanna stream. Meanwhile, the TRS government in the newly formed state allocated crores of rupees and is trying to improve the infrastructure at Medaram,” he added.
