Hyderabad: BRS leader Y Sathish Reddy on Thursday accused the Congress government of large-scale corruption and political misuse of the Indiramma housing scheme. He alleged that Indiramma houses were being sanctioned not to the deserving poor, but to those who paid commissions or had links with Congress leaders.

“Before the polls, they promised homes for all. Now, only those who pay 10–20 per cent bribes or Congress supporters are getting houses,” he said.

Speaking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan here, Sathish Reddy said that in some villages, officials were cancelling sanction letters after beneficiaries had commenced initial works for construction.

Citing instances of Congress leaders handing over sanction letters to beneficiaries, he demanded that the Chief Secretary clarify whether they were authorised to do so.

“Indiramma house sanction letters are being misused by the Congress leaders as a campaign tool for upcoming local body polls,” he said.

The BRS leader said that Chukka Ramesh, from Salvai village in Mulugu district, died by suicide after police threatened him over a social media post where he questioned Indiramma house allotments in his village. He demanded immediate action against those responsible for the irregularities and the villager’s death.
