Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly witnessed high drama on Thursday as Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar was forced to adjourn the House following a heated debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s address. The session quickly spiraled into chaos as opposition BRS MLAs clashed with ruling Congress members over the speech’s authenticity.
Initiating the debate, Government Whip Adi Srinivas introduced the motion, but tensions flared when BRS MLA Jagadish Reddy took the floor. The former Minister dismissed the Governor’s speech as an AI generated script, charging the Congress government with filling it with lies.
“The Congress did not fulfill its promises, but claimed to have delivered them in the Governor’s speech. Within 36 minutes span, they made the Governor utter 360 lies,” he remarked, adding that even the Governor read the speech in a mechanical manner.
Congress MLAs objected to his comments, leading to a war of words. Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy intervened, pointing out unfulfilled promises of the previous BRS government, including land allocation for Dalits and the appointment of a Dalit Chief Minister.
Talasani Srinivas Yadav demanded that BRS members be allowed to speak uninterrupted, questioning the fairness of the ruling party’s interventions. At this juncture, Speaker Gaddam Prasad asked Jagadish Reddy not to deviate from the subject.
The situation escalated when Jagadish Reddy challenged the Speaker’s impartiality, insisting that he had not strayed from the debate’s subject. As Congress MLAs demanded an apology and even suspension, Jagadish Reddy refused to yield until order was restored. With both sides locked in a shouting match, Speaker Prasad Kumar intervened but failed to regain control, ultimately adjourning the House.
