Chinna Medaram Jathara draws massive crowds in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri

Traditional Chinna Medaram Jathara underway with tight security
RAJAPET/ YADADRI BHUVANAGIRI: Huge crowds thronged the Kuraram village in Rajapet mandal of the Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district to participate in the ‘Chinna Medaram Jathara, which began on Wednesday. The four day festival will conclude on Saturday.
Carrying livestock and jaggery, the devotees from various villages of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Janagaon, Siddipet and Nalgonda districts thronged the Kuraram village to participate in the Jathara’ of tribal deities Sammakka and Saralamma.
According to the ritual schedule, Saralamma arrived at the gaddelu on the 28 th of the month followed by Sammakka the next day. Lakhs of devotees visited the venue on Thursday. The attendance is expected to be high on Saturday, the final day.
This biennial tribal festival dedicated to deities Sammakka and Saralamma is conducted with traditional devotion here.
N Krishna, a resident of Jangaon district said that he is visiting for the third time. “My family feels blessed after offering the prayers here. I am happy that I got an opportunity to visit the temple for the third time in a row,” he said.
Bhukya Surendhra, a resident of Rajapet village and mandal, said that his family is regularly visiting the place and offering prayers. “The Chinna Medaram Jathara started around 30 years ago. Since then we are participating in the Chinna Medaram Jathara and offering prayers here,” he told Telangana Today.
People attending the festival camped around the place by erecting tents in the agriculture fields. A big fair was organized in the vicinity with traders selling bangles, imitation jewellery, sweets, jaggery, livestock and other articles.
The Yadadri Bhuvanagiri police made elaborate security arrangements. Three parking areas were arranged to facilitate the devotees who arrived in private vehicles including tractors and SUVs. The local administration arranged a health camp, while a police control room was set up at the venue.
