Khammam: Doing its bit to alleviate the shortage of medical oxygen, Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust, founded by actor Chiranjeevi, has set up ‘Chiranjeevi Oxygen Bank’ in Khammam.
It may be noted that the actor and his son Ram Charan on May 20 announced that they had decided to start oxygen banks at the district level in a week to prevent deaths due to lack of oxygen.
As part of their initiative, Chiranjeevi Oxygen Bank was brought into use for people in the district on May 27. It was inaugurated by District Government Hospital Superintendent Dr B Venkateshwarlu near Anjaneya Swamy Temple at Burhanpuram in the city.
“The motto of Chiranjeevi is no Covid patient, especially those from a poor financial background, should suffer from the lack of medical oxygen. This is exactly the reason why oxygen banks are being set up in all districts,” said District Chiranjeevi Fan Club secretary G Viresh Goud. The oxygen bank at present is equipped with 30 cylinders and 10 oxygen concentrators. A request has been made for an additional 50 cylinders and some oxygen concentrators to meet the demand, he said.
Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’ on Saturday, Goud said they had received over 1,000 calls from Covid patients in the past couple of days from across the district seeking oxygen support. The mainstream and social media have been helpful in reaching out to the public. Oxygen cylinders are being provided free of cost to patients admitted to hospitals in emergency condition and those discharged from hospitals but still need oxygen support. It is a huge financial burden for the poor to get oxygen support from the market, he noted.
The State government is making all-out efforts to address the shortage of medical oxygen. And it is appreciable to see that actor Chiranjeevi, known for his charitable acts, stepped in to address the issue at his level, said educationist and TRS district office in-charge, Gundala Krishna.
He visited Chiranjeevi Oxygen Bank, interacted with the fan club leaders and said the people are happy with the launch of the service programme in Khammam. He asked them to see that the poor and the middle class are benefitted from the facility.
In Khammam district, Viresh Goud, Chiranjeevi fan club leaders Gangishetti Srinivas and Mohammed Sadiq Ali are looking after the bank’s operations. They can be contacted at the following numbers: Goud-9848882551, Srinivas-9397345333 and Ali-9912234466.
