Suryapet: Suryapet Municipal Authorities on Sunday launched “Mana Kosam Manam,” a novel programme that requires people to spend 10 minutes every Sunday to clean their houses to avoid mosquito breeding.
As part of the programme, wall stickers were pasted on every house in the town to educate the people about the objective of the programme.
Launching the programme in 11th ward, Suryapet Municipal Chairperson Perumalla Annapurna said sanitary workers would take up release of oil balls in stagnating water in colonies to neutralise mosquitoe larva. She pointed out that mosquitoes were the main cause for the outbreak of dengue, malaria and Chikungunya diseases during the monsoon season. “We can control these diseases if we control mosquitoes in colonies,” she added.
She said people should spend 10 minutes at 10 am every Sunday to remove rubbish. Sanitation workers will also participate in the programme in the colonies during this time, she added.
Stating that the state government has been giving top priority for public health, she said that everyone should keep it in mind that “Health is Wealth”. Hence, they should consider keeping their houses and colonies clean as their responsibility.
