Mancherial: A group of four members from Hyderabad-based ClimbOn Adventure Club, conducted rappelling at Gandhari Khila on the outskirts of Bokkalagutta village on Saturday. The Club is affiliated with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation.

Madhu, Pavan, Sushanth and Rajamouli organized rappelling at a 225-foot high peak of the fort. They opined that the historical place was suitable for rappelling competitions. They observed that the fort could attract adventurers from across the country if basic amenities were created. The spot had potential to become a major destination for adventure activities, they noted, adding that the event was aimed at assessing conditions at the fort.

The members thanked the forest department and YHAI, Bellampalli unit, for extending their cooperation in conducting the activity.

Gandhari fort is believed to have been built by a tribal king Medaraju, who had ruled over the region, by taking assistance from Kakatiya rulers in 900 AD. It houses a temple of Maisamma. Similarly, it has idols of Kala Bhairava Swamy, Lord Siva, Lord Ganesh, Hanuman, 10-headed Naga Sheshu and idols of various deities chiseled out of rocks. The magnificent idols captivate tourists with their aesthetic value.
