Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday directed IIT Hyderabad authorities to prepare a comprehensive report on the impact of the construction of the Polavaram project by the Andhra Pradesh government on Telangana.
The Chief Minister, who chaired a meeting on irrigation projects at the Secretariat on Saturday, asked the IIT Hyderabad to prepare the report within one month. He also asked the officials to conduct a study on the threat posed to the Bhadrachalam temple by the construction of Polavaram and to appoint a special officer to coordinate with the IIT Hyderabad team on the issue.
The officials brought the matter of the Godavari Banakacherla project newly undertaken by the Andhra Pradesh government to the attention of the Chief Minister and stated that the Andhra Pradesh government was planning to take up the Godavari-Banakacherla project that interlinks the Godavari and Krishna rivers.
Following the officials informing the Chief Minister that there were no permissions for the project being built based on flood waters, they were asked to convey Telangana’s objections to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary. The Chief Minister also directed the officials to write letters to the Godavari River Management Board as well as the union Ministry of Jal Shakti, to safeguard the interests of the State.
