Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao inspected the progress of ongoing construction works of the new State Secretariat building complex at the site on Tuesday.

He examined every nook and corner of the work site and interacted with engineers on the site and representatives of the implementing agency. They were instructed to expedite the works and maintain the highest quality standards in construction. The Chief Minister also visited the construction sites of the main entrance, other gates and main building complex. He examined the designs and gave necessary instructions on execution of works. The officials explained about the progress of works at different spots within the premises.

The construction works gained momentum at the Secretariat complex after the Centre accorded environmental clearance for the ultra-modern Secretariat complex earlier this month. Pits have been already dug up for laying foundation and work has begun to erect footing pillars. All measures are being taken to ensure strong foundation in consultation with architects, structural engineers and IIT professors among others, to withstand earthquakes and other natural disasters.

The entire Secretariat Complex will have about 200 footings, and each footing constructed with about 40 cubic metres of concrete including 300 bags of cement and four tonnes of steel. This is equivalent to the concrete used for construction of a small independent house which indicates the strength of the entire structure.

The Secretariat building complex will be an east-facing seven-storeyed structure with a built-up area of seven lakh square feet. It will be a 270 feet tall building, with four floors occupying the departmental offices, sky lounges and other amenities in the next two floors, followed by the Chief Minister’s office in the top floor overlooking the Hussain Sagar lake.

The works are being supervised by Roads and Buildings Engineer-in-Chief Ganapathi Reddy and representatives of Shapoorji Pallonji group that has been given the contract for the project.
Ministers Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Mohd Mohammod Ali, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Koppula Eshwar, Government Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Principal Secretary for Roads and Buildings Sunil Sharma, Engineer-in-Chief Ganapathi Reddy, Rythu Bandhu Samithi chairman Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, MLA Muthireddy Yadagiri Reddy and others accompanied the Chief Minister.
