Khammam: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of tapping the phones of his own Cabinet colleagues, alleging that the CM is insecure about retaining his post. He challenged Revanth to undergo a lie detector test to prove otherwise.
Addressing the media here on Friday, Rama Rao claimed that the phones of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with thousands of others, were being tapped at the behest of the Chief Minister.
He also pointed out inconsistencies in Revanth Reddy’s statements on the recent inter-state meeting on water sharing in Delhi. “Revanth initially told the media he would skip the Jal Shakti Ministry-led meeting, but he rushed to Delhi and attended it,” Rama Rao said.
The BRS leader alleged that Revanth lied about the Banakacherla project not being discussed, even though Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu confirmed it was the first agenda item.
Rama Rao accused Revanth Reddy of having a secret pact with AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to compromise Telangana’s interests. “Since this was publicly exposed, Revanth is making baseless allegations against BRS leaders,” he said.
Speaking on the Banakacherla project, he said the Congress government must secure Telangana’s rightful share of 968 TMC and surplus 1950 TMC water from the Godavari. He demanded that AP withdraw objections to the Sitarama, Sitamma Sagar, Kaleshwaram, and Sammakka barrage projects.
He criticised Chandrababu Naidu’s assertion of using Godavari surplus waters and said Banakacherla lacks statutory clearances.
Rama Rao alleged that Revanth Reddy’s 20-month tenure was marked by false claims and vendetta politics. “Instead of focusing on development or fulfilling the six guarantees—like one tola gold for newlyweds and Rs. 2,500 monthly aid for women—he is raking up issues like Kaleshwaram, drugs, and phone tapping to divert public attention.”
He also referred to the ED raids on Minister Srinivas Reddy’s properties a year ago, questioning why neither the agency nor the minister revealed any findings. He called it evidence of a tacit understanding between the Congress and BJP.
Dismissing Revanth Reddy’s allegation that he had secretly met AP Minister Nara Lokesh, Rama Rao said, “There’s no need to meet him secretly. He’s like a brother to me. What’s wrong in meeting him?”
He also alleged that land deals by Revanth Reddy’s brothers near Hyderabad, under the pretext of the RRR project, would soon be exposed along with Singareni contracts awarded to the CM’s relatives.
Slamming the government’s claims of 42 percent BC reservations in local body elections, he called it a political drama. He said the Congress, in its BC Declaration, promised Rs. 1 lakh crore for BC welfare but failed to allocate even Rs. 20,000 crore over two budgets.
He also criticised the failure to implement the BC Sub-plan, the promised reservations in contracts, and Cabinet berths. Quoting retired judge Eshwaraiah Goud, he said the ordinance on 42 percent quota lacks legal validity.
