Medak: BRS candidates had luck on their side as they won all three wards that were tied after multiple rounds of counting in three different municipalities in the erstwhile Medak district.

In the sixth ward of Dubbak municipality, BRS candidate Kankanala Yellavva and Congress candidate Srilatha secured 357 votes each. After repeated counts confirmed the tie, the Returning Officer declared the result by flipping a coin. The toss favoured Yellavva, triggering celebrations among BRS workers.

The victory proved crucial as the BRS went on to win 11 of the 20 wards and secure control of Dubbak municipality. Without this win, it would have faced difficulty in claiming the chairperson and vice-chairperson posts.

In Toopran municipality, BRS candidate Bairam Satyalingam won the third ward through a draw of lots after he and the Congress candidate secured an equal number of votes. The result helped the BRS win nine of the 16 wards and secure the municipality.

In Narsapur municipality, a triangular contest in the 15th ward among the BRS, Congress and BJP ended in a tie between the BRS and Congress candidates, who secured 253 votes each, while the BJP candidate polled 240 votes.

The Returning Officer once again resorted to a coin toss, in which BRS candidate Lalitha Bikshapathi emerged victorious. However, the win did not alter the overall outcome, as the BRS secured five wards, while the Congress and BJP won six and four wards respectively.
