Hyderabad: In view of severe cold wave conditions prevailing across several parts of the State, the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Teachers’ Union (TSWRTU) urged the TGSWREIS to revise the school timings (8 am to 4.15 pm) for all social welfare residential institutions.
In a representation to TGSWREIS Secretary S Krishna Aditya, the union said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a cold wave alert till December 24, warning that minimum temperatures may fall 3 degree Celsius to 4 degree Celsius below normal.
Several districts across the State, including parts of Hyderabad, have already recorded single-digit temperatures. This is causing discomfort and health concerns, particularly for school-going children residing in hostels and those required to move outdoors during early morning hours, it said.
In response to these conditions, the Adilabad district collector has revised school timings to 9.40 am to 4.15 pm, prioritising the health and safety of students, it said.
“In view of the IMD forecast and the prevailing severe cold conditions across the State, we request you to revise school timings (9:40 am to 4:15 pm) to all TSWREIS institutions until the cold wave subsides,” it added.
