Hyderabad: Justice K Lakshman of the Telangana High Court quashed an FIR registered against former Minister KT Rama Rao at the Saifabad police station.
The case was related to alleged derogatory remarks made by Rama Rao against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The FIR was filed based on a complaint that Rama Rao had used abusive language to criticise the Chief Minister. The High Court, however, quashed the FIR.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed by Member of Parliament Anil Kumar Yadav, alleging that Rama Rao had used abusive language against Revanth Reddy in a post on social media platform ‘X’. Yadav claimed that Rama Rao referred to the Chief Minister as “Delhi’s slave” (Delhi Gulam) and used other offensive terms. The post also mentioned Rama Rao’s promise to clean up the garbage surrounding the BR Ambedkar Secretariat immediately after coming to power.
Rama Rao had sought court directions to quash the case on the ground that the case was politically motivated. Further it was argued that the allegations were false and the offences were not attracted against Rama Rao.
After hearing the arguments, the judge advised political leaders to maintain decorum and refrain from using abusive language on social media platforms. Ultimately, conceding with the arguments made by Rama Rao’s counsel, the High Court quashed the FIR registered against him.
