Nizamabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy on Friday said the main objective of the TRS government led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was to provide better health facilities and treatment to poor people.
Speaking after inaugurating eight ICU and half a dozen oxygen beds at Velpur primary health centre, he said the facilities in the health centre were improved with Rs 31 lakh funds given by his family members and friends.
The main government hospital in the district headquarters lacked ICU beds during the tenure of undivided Andhra Pradesh. But after a separate State for Telangana was carved out, amenities were improved significantly, he said.
The Covid-19 has taught several lessons to everyone, he said, adding that the district administration headed by Collector Narayana Reddy managed to control the spread of the virus during the first and second wave with the coordination of everyone. He said he personally felt bad for failing to save the lives of several well-wishers in spite of having money during the medical emergency because of a lack of proper amenities.
“By God’s grace, my family and I settled well and my intention is now to render service to people. In order to do service to people, my family and well-wishers are helping me on all fronts,” he said. He said he succeeded in improving amenities in hospitals in Balkonda constituency with the help of his friends at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore. The Minister said his wife Neeraja Reddy also gave Rs 25 lakh for the development of hospitals in the district.
A few days ago, the Minister’s friend donated an oxygen ambulance worth Rs 27 lakh. Twelve hospitals in the constituency were now having ICU units, operation theaters and water reserve osmosis plants among other amenities.
