Hyderabad: Fear of losing minority votes to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi party, the rivals Congress – AIMIM have rushed in their party workers from the old city to Jubilee Hills constituency for the campaign.
Scores of AIMIM party and Congress workers from areas such as Barkas, Jahanuma, Kalapather, Bahadurpura, Hussainialam, Charminar, Tolichowki, Malakpet, Saidabad, Tappachabutra and other are seen canvassing for Congress candidate V Naveen Yadav in the minority dominated areas of Jubilee Hills constituency.
A Congress party worker from Barkas, who was campaigning in Rahmathnagar, Yousufguda on condition of anonymity said that the city unit leaders had asked them to come and campaign in the minority pockets of Jubilee Hills constituency.
Similarly, a group of AIMIM party workers from Bahadurpura constituency were seen campaigning alongside the AIMIM MLC, Mirza Rahmath Baig in Erragadda division. The party workers said that their leaders had instructed them to join the election campaign in the Jubilee Hills constituency. The AIMIM party had won two divisions Erragadda and Shaikpet in the last GHMC elections and had a considerable base in only two divisions.
The BRS party had gained a lot of support in the constituency among minorities due to its welfare schemes such as minority residential schools, scholarships and ‘shaadi mubarak’ scheme. The Congress with the support of the AIMIM is struggling to lure the minorities towards it and making an all out effort to win over the minorities.
There are around 1.40 lakh Muslim votes in the Jubilee Hills constituency and the polling percentage in Muslim localities is much higher compared to other areas of the constituency. The minority votes are a deciding factor in the elections.
