Congress govt accused of sidelining BC Bhavan projects in Telangana
The Congress government in Telangana has been criticised for failing to expedite the construction of BC Atma Gourava Bhavans, despite allocating Rs. 100 crore in the 2026-27 budget. While the previous BRS government had sanctioned land and funds for 42 bhavans across Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri and Hyderabad, only a few were completed.
Hyderabad: After having failed to deliver its promise of providing 42 percent reservations to BCs in local bodies, the Congress government seems to have sidelined the construction of BC Atma Gourava Bhavans.
The previous BRS government had allotted lands for construction of these bhavans in Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri and Hyderabad. In all, about 88 acres were allotted for construction of Atma Gourava Bhavans for 42 BC and other communities.
Of these, 13 bhavans were sanctioned on 37 acres at Kokapet in Rangareddy and Rs. 49 crore was also allocated. Similarly, 28 bhavans were sanctioned on 49 acres at Uppal Bhagayath, Peerzadiguda and Medipally in Medchal Malkajgiri district. The Nayee Brahmin Bhavan was sanctioned for two acres at Batasingaram, Abdullapurmet in Rangareddy with a financial allocation of Rs. 2 crore.
Of the 42 Atma Gourava Bhavans, construction of Yadav and Kuruma Bhavan was completed at Kokapet. It was inaugurated by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on December 12, 2024. The majority of these works were completed during the BRS rule.
The construction of the remaining bhavans is yet to gain steam. At present, Agarwal Samaj Sahayatha Bhavan, Vanjari Bhavan, Devanga Bhavan and Gangaputra Bhavan are under construction at Uppal Bhagayath.
Interestingly, funds have not been allocated for construction of Agarwal Samaj Sahayatha Bhavan, Vanjari Bhavan and Devanga Bhavan. They are being constructed by the communities through donations secured from different people. The Gangaputra Bhavan works were approved through Tribal Welfare, ITDA (plain areas), Hyderabad.
The Congress government has allocated Rs.100 crore for construction of Atma Gourava Bhavans in the 2026-27 financial budget. However, release of funds and execution of works expeditiously appear to have been sidelined by the government for reasons better known to the officials.
Cutting across party lines legislators have been demanding the State government to release funds and expedite the works. During the budget session, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender reminded that five acres of land was allotted for construction of Munnurukapu Bhavan at Kokapet and Rs. 5 crore was also approved.
But, most of the land was covered with debris and to clear the waste and commence the bhavan works, additional funds were required, he said. The State government has to sanction Rs. 20 crore for construction of Munnurukapu Bhavan, he had urged.
