Hyderabad: Coming down heavily on the Congress government, former Minister and BRS leader V Srinivas Goud criticised it for deceiving Backward Classes (BCs) on the reservations ahead of the upcoming local body elections. He demanded that local body elections be postponed until 42 per cent reservation for BCs was implemented as promised.
Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, Srinivas Goud felt Congress leaders announcing plans to hold local body elections shortly, without completing the reservation process, was grave injustice to the BCs. He raised doubts over the Congress government’s plans to implement BC reservations.
“Why was the BC reservation bill sent to the Centre without consulting the Prime Minister? Why didn’t the Chief Minister raise the legality of the bill when he met Modi?” he asked.
Lashing out at the Congress for its hypocrisy, the former Minister said promises made in the Kamareddy Declaration were reduced to dust. He ridiculed the Congress’s claims to give reservations on behalf of the party, if the Centre does not approve the BC reservation bill.
“BCs form 60 per cent of the State population, but were given only three Ministerial berths. If the Congress is to be believed, why did not they give more berths to BCs in the Cabinet? Where is the promised Rs 20,000 crore BC sub-plan? Why are key departments denied to BC leaders?” he asked.
Former MLA Jaipal Yadav also demanded the Congress government to take a decision in the next Cabinet meeting for implementing 42 per cent reservations in local body elections. Asking both the Congress and the BJP to spell out their stand on the issue, he urged BC organisations and voters to rise against the betrayal and teach the Congress a fitting lesson if it failed again.
