Congress Govt. failed to deliver promises made to tribals: ex-MLA Chandravathi

Former MLA Banoth Chandravathi accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil promises made to tribal communities. She demanded action on employment, reservations, podu lands and welfare schemes, while highlighting the previous BRS government’s decision to increase ST reservations

Khammam: The Congress government has failed to implement the promises made to tribal communities during the Assembly elections, alleged former MLA Banoth Chandravathi.

She demanded that the government announce a clear action plan on employment opportunities for tribal youth, implementation of reservation benefits in education, resolution of podu land issues, development of thandas and implementation of welfare schemes.

Recalling the previous BRS government’s decision in September 2022 to increase ST reservations in Telangana from 6 per cent to 10 per cent, she said it was not merely an increase in the quota but a right granted to tribal youth in education, employment and their future.

Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Chandravathi said the credit for recognising the tribals’ decades-long aspiration and implementing the 10 per cent reservation for the community went to former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

In addition to the reservation hike, the former Chief Minister transformed thandas and hamlets into gram panchayats, thereby ensuring self-governance, political representation and self-respect for tribal communities.

Chandravathi called on tribal leaders to highlight the Congress government’s alleged failures in ensuring their welfare and organise programmes thanking Chandrashekhar Rao for his decision to increase the tribal reservation quota.

She also urged tribals to participate in large numbers in programmes scheduled for September 17, the day Hyderabad State was merged with the Indian Union in 1948 and which the BRS observes as National Integration Day.
