Khammam: Farmers’ woes over the shortage of urea continue in Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao’s own district of Khammam.
On Saturday, farmers were forced to wait for several hours at the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) office at Karepally in Wyra Assembly constituency after learning that a truckload of urea was expected.
Officials issued coupons to around 160 farmers who had assembled at the office early in the morning. However, they had to wait the entire day for the truck to arrive. Farmers said the urea supplied was grossly insufficient for their crop needs.
Former Wyra MLA Banoth Chandravathi alleged that while the Congress government was boasting of its ‘Praja Palana’, it had failed to ensure timely and adequate supply of fertiliser. Farmers, she said, were forced to abandon their agricultural work and stand in long queues at warehouses.
