Hyderabad: Congress MLA from Tungaturthy Mandula Samuel withdrew his remarks on the Hindu religion, particularly the Brahmin community, and tendered an apology after his comments triggered a political furore in the State.
The Congress MLA had allegedly made objectionable comments during the TPCC SC Cell felicitation programme of Congress MLA Kavvampally Satyanarayana at Gandhi Bhavan last Thursday. In a video statement issued on Monday, Mandula Samuel said, “If my comments have hurt you (Telangana Brahmin community), I withdraw them. I have immense respect for you and the community.”
Raising objections to his remarks, Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay had earlier demanded that the police register a criminal case against the Congress MLA for attempting to disturb communal harmony through provocative comments. However, the Congress MLA alleged that the BJP was trying to create differences between him and the Brahmin community. The community should recognise the real agenda, he added.
