Hyderabad: After failing to extend 42 per cent reservations to BCs, the Congress now says a delegation led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will soon meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to exert pressure on the issue.
“The promise to extend 42 per cent reservations to BCs is not a closed chapter. We will keep trying till success is achieved,” TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud said here on Saturday.
After paying tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on his death anniversary at Amberpet, Goud said the death of Sai Eshwar Chary was painful and unfortunate.
“Life is precious. BC leaders and youth should not take any extreme steps,” he cautioned, assuring that the Congress government would extend full support to Eshwar Chary’s family.
Like the statutory rights extended to SCs and STs, the Congress would continue its fight to secure 42 per cent statutory reservations to BCs, he said.
“The Congress government will come to power at the Centre and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will become the Prime Minister. Like the SC and ST reservations, statutory reservations for BCs will also be secured,” he claimed.
Accusing the BJP of creating hurdles in implementing 42 per cent reservations, he said the Congress government had taken several political, technical and legal measures from its side.
Meanwhile, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said Gram Panchayat elections were being conducted under compelling circumstances and this should not be taken as the Congress being against 42 per cent BC reservations.
“Cutting across party lines, all the leaders should fight with the Central government. Everyone should extend their support for the Chalo Delhi programme and ensure the Central government listens to our demands,” Prabhakar told media persons in Karimnagar.
The Minister also appealed to BC community leaders not to get influenced by political tactics. “Irrespective of the tactics adopted, do not become scapegoats,” he said.
