Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday celebrated Constitution Day with a formal event attended by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, judges of the High Court, Advocate General A Sudarshan Reddy, Additional Solicitor General of India B Narsimha Sharma, senior advocates, officers of the court, and members of the Bar.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said Constitution Day represents India’s democratic evolution and its enduring commitment to justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. He recalled Dr BR Ambedkar’s reminder that the Constitution is not merely a lawyer’s document, but a living instrument that must respond to the changing needs of society. “This living character has given us strength in difficult times,” he said.
He noted that the creation of the Telangana State through constitutional mechanisms stood as an example of the Constitution’s farsightedness and flexibility. The Governor urged that Constitution Day be an occasion to reaffirm efforts toward building a more equal, inclusive, prosperous, and forward-looking India. He observed that democracy thrives when the three organs of the State work in harmony, respecting constitutional boundaries and the supremacy of the Constitution.
Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, in his address, paid rich tributes to Dr Ambedkar, saying his moral courage and unwavering commitment to justice gave India not just a legal document but a transformative charter for social change. The Chief Justice said the strength of the Constitution does not lie in its text alone, but in the determination of the people to uphold equality, liberty, fraternity, and dignity in their everyday conduct.
He stressed the need for constitutional awareness at the grassroots, noting that the Constitution must “reach every individual” so citizens understand both the freedoms they enjoy and the responsibilities that accompany them. He added that the responsibility of nurturing constitutional values rests not only with administrators who implement the law but also with the media, which shapes public understanding.
The ceremony concluded with a pledge to uphold constitutional ideals and renew commitment to the principles that guide India’s democratic framework.
