Hanamkonda: A massive rally as part of the nation-wide ‘Consumer Bharat Yatra’ for consumer awareness was organised here on Friday under the aegis of Consumer Federation of India national senior secretary Dr Pallepadu Damodar.
The rally was conducted jointly by the Department of Consumer Affairs and the Consumer Confederation of India (CCI), with the cooperation of other relevant departments. The yatra focuses on consumer rights protection and speedy justice.
Consumer Bharat Yatra aims at creating awareness about the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, addressing fraudulent practices in weights and measures, controlling food adulteration and educating consumers about their rights, Damodar said.
The CCI national chairman Dr Anantha Sharma, known as the ‘Consumer Man of India’, took part in the rally and said that the Consumer Bharat Yatra was launched in New Delhi on December 24, 2025, on National Consumer Day, to strengthen the consumer rights ecosystem in the country.
The yatra is being conducted in all States and Union Territories of India and aims to cover approximately 20,000 kilometres to reach the public in rural areas and educate them about consumer laws and their rights, he said.
Dr Sharma said the yatra has traversed nearly 200 towns, covering a distance of 9,000 kilometres. He expressed delight at the participation of a large number of women, farmers, students and representatives of consumer associations at the yatra in Hanamkonda.
Every consumer is entitled to six important rights, including the right to safety, the right to information, the right to choose, the right to be heard, the right to seek redressal and the right to consumer education under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
CCI national president Preeti Pandya said that in addition to raising awareness on consumer protection, consumers should contact the toll-free number 1915 to resolve their problems. An awareness meeting was later held at SVS College.
CCI working president Selvaraj, general secretaries Chakrapani and Tiruvaku Vasu, Bharat Yatra coordinator Rekha Khandelwal, GC member Daniel, Sandhya Khandelwal and others were present.
