Cops on protest mode: Warangal, Kothagudem witness continuing protests by TGSP families

The protesting women demanded the State govt follow the police policy of TN and K'taka States. The TGSP personnel should be allowed to serve at one place for at least five years and the number of leaves in a month should be increased, they said.

Kothagudem/Warangal: Protests by family members of the Telangana State Police (TGSP) continued across the districts on Saturday as well.

In Kothagudem, family members of the TGSP 6th Battalion took to the streets with the slogan ‘Ek State-Ek police’. A large number of women along with their children took out a protest rally from Palakendram area and staged a dharna on Kothagudem-Bhadrachalam main road braving the scorching heat in support of the personnel. They shouted slogans like ‘TGSP Hatao’.

Speaking to the media, the women alleged that their husbands were being ill-treated and were forced to do menial work. They wanted eight hours duty, health facilities and leaves for the TGSP personnel. The protesting women demanded the State government follow the police policy of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka States. The TGSP personnel should be allowed to serve at one place for at least five years and the number of leaves in a month should be increased, they said.

Due to the frequent change of postings, the children were facing difficulties in their studies. The women lamented that their husbands were forced to stay away from home for longer periods and it was having an adverse impact on the families and children, they said.

In Warangal’s Mamnoor, several police constables from the Mamnoor Fourth Battalion staged a protest in uniform in front of the Battalion Commandant’s office, demanding implementation of a the ‘Ek Police’ system.

The police personnel raised slogans demanding to eliminate differences in the police department policies. They demanded a single police system on the lines of the one being implemented in Tamil Nadu, where the State recruited special police who after a certain period, are taken into law and order and civil policing. They squatted in front of the Battalion Commandant’s office for over one hour before returning to their barracks. On October 22, the wives and family members of battalion constables staged a protest in front of the battalion maingate and even tried to take out a rally, but senior police personnel convinced them to withdraw the protest.
