Peddapalli: Cotton farmers staged a rasta roko in front of Peddapalli agriculture market yard demanding remunerative price for their produce on Tuesday.
Vehicular traffic on Rajiv Rahadari came to a standstill for a while as the farmers squatted on the main road. On coming to know about the farmers agitation, police rushed to the spot and cleared the traffic after convincing the ryots to disperse with the help of market yard officials.
Speaking on the occasion, farmers said that on Monday, they were paid Rs 6,300 per quintal cotton. However, it was reduced to Rs 4,500 per quintal on Tuesday. While eight traders took part in trading on Monday, only two traders took part on Tuesday.
Initially, farmers staged dharna inside the market yard for half an hour demanding that the officials take steps to provide remunerative price for cotton. When they failed to get a response, they staged rasta roko on Rajiv Rahadari.
