Covid volunteers in Hyderabad pool resources to help the needy
Resource groups in the city have developed a seamless network of volunteers who rely on each other’s expertise and are collaborating with each other to ensure people in need find help
Hyderabad: The spirit of team work is something that has no parallels. And the people of Hyderabad have been proving it repeatedly during the Covid-19 pandemic, with individuals and voluntary groups coming together, networking amongst themselves and with the government, pooling in all resources, and in turn, ensuring that those who are in need get all the help.
Multiple resource groups working towards helping combat the ongoing Covid-19 crisis have also mobilised themselves into different groups, each specialising in fulfilling a specific requirement, from food to finding blood donors to delivering groceries and more. One interesting fact about all the resource groups in the city is that all of them have developed a seamless network of volunteers who rely on each other’s expertise and are collaborating with each other to ensure people in need find help.
For instance, take city-based cyclist group Relief Riders, who are coordinating with multiple groups, rendering their assistance to whoever is in need of grocery or medicine deliveries and handle multiple requests at the same time.
“We get a lot of requests from many groups, some want help regarding grocery deliveries, some seek medicines or other Covid necessities from one part of the city to another and our riders take care of that. There are also instances where we have received a request from one resource group and taken help of another group. So, we are also helping out to coordinate between the groups as well,” shares Ravi Sambari, a core member of Relief Riders.
Helping Spot is another team that takes care of food requests from multiple groups. It has been giving free meals to over 700 Covid patients every day and attending to requests from multiple resource groups.
“We get requests from multiple groups and we provide whatever help we can. In addition to rendering our services, we also utilise help from different teams to get grocery supplies, delivery volunteers and other such support,” says Bhargav Ventrapragada of Helping Spot.
The Online Blood Donors team also is utilising Covid resource groups to help connect requests and assist in finding blood donors. Group’s president, Krishna Agarwal, says, “People know that we provide blood donors and other health-related assistance and reach out to us for Covid requests as well. We forward requests for oxygen, medicines, beds, food, etc, to Covid resource groups and when they have requests regarding blood or plasma, we provide the necessary donors.”
This ecosystem that developed organically over the past few months, especially during the ongoing second wave, has played a major role in helping thousands of Covid-19 affected families.
“There are multiple teams in our resource group and that is how we have been able to help out with any requests we receive. We connect our requests to the right team and there’s mutual cooperation that has been going on and the best part is that none of this was planned or organised. As we worked more, each team started focussing on one particular aspect and core members of each team are in our group. These people take the requests ahead to their respective teams and help out unconditionally,” shares Vasishta Pochampally, an admin of Combat Covid, a comprehensive resource group.
