HYDERABAD: The CPI State unit, which is a Congress ally, stated that people had lot of expectations on the Budget but the financial allocations made to different sectors do not fulfil their aspirations.
The Congress had promised several schemes and benefits during the elections. If it has to fulfil the promises, about Rs 5 lakh crore budget would be required, CPI MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao said while addressing media persons on Wednesday.
For the irrigation sector, Rs 23,354 crore was allocated against the government plans to take up a dozen irrigation projects. Similarly, for health sector, only six per cent was allocated and 7.5 per cent for education sector. These allocations would not be sufficient to achieve the desired results, he felt, adding that though sufficient funds were allocated for SC/ST welfare and development, much would depend on how much would be spent in the next financial year.
“If the Congress has to fulfil all the promises made to the people, it will require Aladdin’s magic lamp,” Sambasiva Rao said.
