Crackdown on drunk driving: Cyberabad police nab 247 persons driving under influence of alcohol on Friday

The police booked cases against all the violators and asked them to appear before the court. The vehicles of the violators were also detained by the traffic police.

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police in continuation of its crackdown against persons driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol caught 247 persons during a special drive conducted on Friday.

The police booked cases against all the violators and asked them to appear before the court. The vehicles of the violators were also detained by the traffic police.


The drive was conducted at different places by the traffic police teams late in the night.

The highest numbers of the persons caught were two wheeler riders – 189, followed by 44 four wheeler drivers, 13 auto drivers and a heavy vehicle driver.

A total of 18 persons were caught with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, five persons who were caught recorded with BAC ranging between 301 mg/100 ml to 500 mg/100 ml.

The Cyberabad traffic police officials warned that if anybody indulges in driving under the influence of alcohol and causes accidents resulting in death of people, such person will be arrested and sent to jail under section 105 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) for which maximum punishment is 10 years of jail term and fine.

The traffic police are also writing to the transport department authorities requesting them to cancel the driving license of the persons who were caught and convicted for driving vehicles in inebriated condition.

Drunk driving cases traffic police station wise:

• Balanagar – 31 cases

• Chevella – 28 cases

• Jeedimetla – 24 cases

• RC Puram – 23 cases

• Shadnagar – 22 cases

Motorists caught:

• Two wheeler – 189

• Three wheeler – 13

• Four wheeler – 44

• Heavy vehicle – 1

Those caught age-wise:

• 18- 20 years: 4

• 21- 30 years: 93

• 31-40 years: 88

• 41 – 50 years: 49

• 51 – 60 years : 13

BAC Count:

• Below 50: 48

• 51- 100: 104

• 101- 150: 52

• 151 – 200: 20

• 201 – 300: 18

• 301 – 500: 05
