Saggubiyyam Dessert is a delectable and super tasty sweet that can be served hot or chilled. When served chilled it makes a refreshing dessert for summer and a great coolant.

Saggubiyyam is also referred to as sago pearls, sabudana, and javvarisi as well. Sago pearls, which are made with starch obtained from roots and stems of tapioca, Yuca. Many recipes like kheer, pudding, khichdi, wada, tikkis, and appadams/ papads can be made out of these sago pearls. It is also considered fasting food as it is an instant energy booster.


Intake of Sago Pearls regularly is beneficial for our health in many ways. It improves digestion, reduces blood levels, and promotes strong bones. It is a high-calorie, and high-carb food source. It also helps in building essential fat tissues in the body to protect internal organs and ensures uniform lipid distribution. It is considered to reduce body heat and balance the body temperature. And is considered as a portion of great baby food as well.

So this summer try this creamy, luscious pudding/dessert, a perfect recipe to serve it and complete a meal. Can be served any time we don’t any reason to treat our tastebuds and health as well.

Serves: 4 Members
Preparation Time: 20 Minutes
Total Time: 20 Minutes

Ingredients

• Sago pearls: 1 cup
• Milk: 1 cup
• Water: 4 to 5 cups
• Condensed milk: 1/2 cup
• Cinnamon: 2 to 3 pieces
• Cardamom powder: 1/2 a tsp
• Sugar: as needed
• Almonds: a handful for garnishing
• Pistachios: a handful for garnishing

Method

• Take a cup of sago pearls (saggubiyyam), wash, and let it soak for 1/2 an hour.
• So that they become soft and will be cooked easily.
• If running out of time sago pearls can directly be boiled and cooked.
• Add 4 to 5 cups of water to boil them in a pan.
• Cook them for 10 to 15 minutes until they turn transparent, stirring them constantly.
• Put off the flame and add some cold water to the sago mixture.
• The sago settles down in the pan, strain it with the help of a sieve.
• Put on the flame and place the strained mixture on a low flame.
• Add a cup of milk to it, along with 1/2 a cup of sweetened condensed milk.
• If condensed milk is not available add 1 more cup of milk and boil till on low flame only.
• Add sugar as per the taste, cook it on low flame till thick.
• Add 2 to 3 cinnamon pieces and 1/2 a tsp cardamom powder to enhance the taste and flavor.
• Let it cook for 5 to 6 minutes, until thick, put off the flame.
• Can be served hot or chilled.
• To add more flavor add some Rooh-Afsa.
• Garnish it with nuts of our choice and relish the refreshing dessert.
