Nalgonda: Former Chairman of Legislative Council Gutha Sukender Reddy on Saturday urged the Centre to take up measures to shift the rice of the last Yasangi crop from the godowns of Telangana to create space that would help speed up paddy procurement of Kharif season.
Speaking at a media conference along with Nalgonda MLA Kancherla Bhupal Reddy, Miryalaguda MLA N Bhasker Rao and Zilla Parishad Chairman Banda Narender Reddy, Sukender Reddy said that there was an immediate need to speed up procurement of the paddy from the farmers in the State due to the weather condition. Stocks of paddy of last Yasangi crop season were piled up in Telangana godowns, which was impacting the procurement of paddy for the current crop season. The Centre should allocate railway rakes to the State for shifting the stocks from our godowns, he added.
Welcoming the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to roll back three new farm laws, he urged the Centre to reconsider its decision not to procure parboiled rice for the coming Yasangi crop season. He said that the BJP leaders, who planned to visit to IKP paddy procurement centres, should pursue their party government at the Centre in this regard. He said that the Congress, which was the opposition party at the Centre, was also equally responsible to mount pressure on the Narendra Modi government in the matter. But, leaders of both the Congress and BJP were trying to provoke the farmers in the State for their political mileage.
He said that agriculture activity in Telangana would continue as earlier if the Centre took back its decision not to purchase parboiled rice.
