Hyderabad: Meal delivery services are doing brisk business during the pandemic. As more and more people, especially working professionals look for ways to minimise going grocery shopping and take the stress out of the most time-consuming part of their day – meal prep, subscription meal services are making a quick buck capitalising on this demand.
For parents, especially those looking to lose weight while juggling kids and work from home, such services are a boon. Dr Siddhant Bhargava, one of the co-founders of Food Darzee which started its services in the city mere three months ago, says, the response like the other Metros has been terrific in Hyderabad.
“What we have observed is that people, between 20s and 40s, are eager to lose weight. Figuring out what to eat daily and monitor calorie intake takes time. Most people don’t have that kind of time. So we do all of that legwork for them,” says Dr Siddhanth Bhargava, who along with his partners and school batchmates – Anik Bhandari, Anirudh Ganeriwal, and Devaj Jhunjhunwala decided to roll the dice on a food subscription service in 2017. At that time, the team catered only in Mumbai and later began their services in Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad and now Chennai.
The food subscription service was started in 2017 by Dr Siddhanth Bhargava, along with his partners and school batchmates – Anik Bhandari, Anirudh Ganeriwal, and Devaj Jhunjhunwala.
Once a person registers on their website, they need to fill out a form for basic information, following which a nutritionist from the Food Darzee team gets in touch them. “Based on what the client is looking at, which could be weight loss, muscle gain or just maintaining a certain weight, the nutritionist chalks out a meal plan that could be vegan, low carb, high protein, or keto diet. It’s all customised to a minute level. The nutritionist handholds the client, monitors their daily progress, give suggestions on what to retain and what to change. We also have a home style meal option for people who just want to eat a healthy and tasty meal,” explains Dr Siddhant Bhargava, who is a nutritionist and wellness coach.
Monotony is not even a byword here, as the menus change every day, so one day you could be having theplas for breakfast, teriyaki glazed cottage cheese, stir-fried vegetables with chilli scallion rice for lunch, snack on a fiamma keto pizza and wrap the day with high protein malai curry with brown rice and carrot and mung koshimbir for dinner. It’s a low possibility that you will get this very same meal in the next few months. Understandably, with such an exhaustive variety of food options and calorie intake being taken care of by the team, the cost for such meal plans is high.
But, the upside is that the website gives you the option to choose how many meals you want delivered in a day, and takes allergies and other medical conditions into account when planning the meals.
“We have a centralised kitchen in every city we serve in. We place lot of emphasis on customisation, so whether it’s more protein or more carbs, the kitchen staff is informed of these inputs and cooks accordingly,” says Dr Siddhant Bhargava. The service delivers four meals a day, which is also customisable and offers different plans suited to individual needs.
