HYDERABAD: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) appears to have put the State unit of the Congress in a spot with directions to leaders to trim the proposed jumbo executive committee.

It has been over six months after Mahesh Kumar Goud was appointed as the new president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). Since then, pressure has been mounting on the State leadership to constitute the new executive committee.

Apart from MLAs, the party’s MPs and leaders from different community wings like BCs, SCs and STs etc., have been demanding due recognition in the appointment of members in the new executive committee.

Accordingly, proposals were made to have a jumbo executive committee with nearly five working presidents, 30 vice presidents and 70 general secretaries. This apart, plans were also made to constitute a few more committees, including a Political Advisory Committee and others.

This, in the guise of proposing a jumbo executive committee, was actually a ploy by State leaders to ensure that their supporters got accommodated. Further, the plan was to please all community wings by offering posts to their leaders in the State body, party sources said.

All these plans were finalised with the approval of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and senior leaders. When the TPCC president and the Chief Minister met AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal in New Delhi on Sunday, all these aspects were discussed. However, the party high command seems to have a different opinion.

It is learnt that the high command wanted the State unit to trim the number of posts in the proposed executive committee for different reasons, including possibilities of varied opinions arising among the leaders’ in future over party affairs.

Apart from the State leadership’s plans going awry, this move has left the aspirants anxious. They are now keeping their fingers crossed over securing posts following reports on the high command instructions.

With the State leaders, including the Chief Minister heading to New Delhi again on May 30, announcements are expected over the new TPCC executive committee and Cabinet expansion.
